Deanston Distillery

Deanston doesn’t look like a distillery. But it reassuringly smells like one

35 minutes away.

Housed in a former Victorian cotton mill on the River Teith, Deanston is one of those places that feels like it has a story in every brick.

It’s industrial, gritty and wonderfully photogenic - but there’s also something incredibly warm, friendly and relaxed about it.

From its enormous water wheel and David Brown designed turbine to 100% Scottish barley, organic bottlings and some fabulous whisky ‘finishings’.

And then there’s the film connection: Outlander fans will recognise nearby Doune Castle, while Deanston itself appeared in Ken Loach’s ‘The Angels’ Share’.

Cotton was made here from 1785. Today the mill produces whisky with Deanston’s distinctive elegant and text book ‘waxy character’. A must visit distillery on the A84.
